Greenon will hold it's Third Annual Greenon Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony this coming weekend as four athletes will be recognized on Friday, January 24th after the Greenon JV Boys basketball game vs Indian Lake and then the induction ceremony will occur the next day on Saturday at 12:00 in the Greenon Cafeteria.
Athletes to be inducted are Gary Smith (Class of 1983), Philip Scott (Class of 1986), Regina Smith (Class of 1986), and Kevin Christensen (Class of 2006).
Gary Smith was a four year letter winner in football, was Clark County MVP in Football, and received a football scholarship to Ohio University. Scott played basketball and baseball at Greenon and started for the 1986 basketball squad that finished as State Runner up. Scott was also a three time varsity letter winner in baseball at Greenon who was named MVP and All League his Junior and Senior Year's. Scott then played baseball at Wittenberg University before being drafted by the New York Mets where he played in both the Mets and Yankees minor league organization's.
Regina Smith was All CBC and All District Basketball player while at Greenon and was named Southwest District player of the year her Senior Year as well as the Springfield News-Sun Player of the Year and played college basketball at Miami of Ohio. Christensen wrestled at Greenon where he averaged over 40 wins per season. Christensen still holds the school record with 164 career wins and was a four time state qualifier and two time state placer as he finished 4th in both his Junior and Senior year's. He then went on to wrestle at Ohio University for four years.
The Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Saturday is open to the public and is free of charge. Social hour begins at 12:00 PM in the Greenon cafeteria and then the ceremony with acceptance speeches will begin at 01:00 PM
