Greenon junior Andrew Scott entered a plea in Clark County Juvenile Court of Vehicular Manslaughter in the death of his friend Kenny DePhillips.  The students were traveling southbound on Fowler Road in October of 2017 when the vehicle that Scott was driving went out of control and struck a tree and utility pole resulting in Kenny’s death.

According to Clark County Juvenile Court Prosecutor William Merrell, Scott was sentenced to probation and a suspension of his driving privileges for a year.  A special condition of speaking to groups of high school students regarding teen driving and the impact of the accident was also imposed by the judge.  Merrell noted that this may be the most difficult aspect of the sentence for Scott moving forward.

The original charge of Vehicular Homicide was dropped following the plea.  A victim impact statement was read in court on April 19 prior to the sentencing by a victim advocate on behalf of DePhillip’s family.
